Saturday July 6th, Long Way Homestead is Manitoba’s only wool mill, and shepherdess Anna Hunter is coming to talk about what it means to be a sheep farmer and the process behind making yarn directly from the sheep. She’ll also be bringing a selection of beautiful yarns that come from her farm and mill. Come at 11:30 to hear Anna give a talk about her farm and different sheep breeds from fleece to yarn and all the steps in between! She’ll be talking about the different breeds and the fibres they make and how to best make use of their characteristics. It’s going to be a great talk! Come participate in Wolseley Wool’s summer knit alongs every Tuesday this summer from 6-8 PM. A few of us here at the store have each picked a pattern so there is some KAL variety. As the summer goes on, we might add some new patterns to our KAL list so check back! Kicking off, Josh is knitting The Beauceron by Designs by Delz, a young Montrealer who is an up and coming designer. The unisex pullover features a slip stitch colour work yoke in a DK weight. He picked Estelle Andean DK Heathers that are knitting up nicely. Mona is knitting Beaubourg by Julie Knits in Paris, this rectangular wrap features brioche and slip stitch colour work to create a cozy worsted weight wrap. Thursday June 27th, Mika Cavers of Terra Therapies is coming to give hand reflexology taster sessions. Mika is a RAC certified reflexologist who believes in whole body health and taking care of yourself, she practices foot, hand and face reflexology. As we all know knitting can cause some serious repetitive motion injuries or soreness. Mika joined us at our spring retreat this year and everyone loved it so much we thought it was time to bring her to the shop! Mika is coming to give 10$ / 15 minute taster sessions. At 1:30 she’s going to give a short talk about hand care and the importance of preventing injuries. The sign up sheet will be ready on Thursday, June 20th and you can call the store then to book your spot!
On Saturday, June 29th, Crystal, former employee of Wolseley Wool and creative genius, is coming back to share her amazing new project, Purl and Hank. Crystal has been practicing leather work since her time at Wolseley Wool and she’s ready to show what she’s got. Her focus is on making beautiful tools, notions, and accessories for knitting. She creates leather buttons, shawl belts, notion kits, and lots more. If you’re looking to meet Crystal and learn about her process come by at 11 while she demos some of her leather working skills. She’ll be around all day to answer questions and chat about the amazing products she makes. We’re very excited to have Crystal back in the shop even if its just for one day.
